Paul George is elected President for 2011-2012; Nowroze Vazifdar will succeed him in 2012-2013

The 80th Annual General Meeting of the Rotary Club of Bombay was held at the Taj Mahal Hotel on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, when all the resolutions moved by the chair were adopted unanimously and the Office-Bearers for the Rotary year 20102011 and Directors (for 2010-2012) declared elected without any contest.

Paul George was elected unopposed to serve as President of the Rotary Club of Bombay in 2011-2012. And Nowroze Vazifdar will succeed him as President of the Club in the Rotary year 2012-2013.

For the first time in the history of the Club, the name of a father-son duo will go into the records for having served as Presidents, albeit in two different millennia and with a time lag of a little over 30 years. Nowroze’s father, the late Dr. Jamshed N. Vazifdar, popularly known as Jimmy, served the Club as President in 1980/81.

He was preceded by the late Dr. Buji Colabawalla and succeeded by the late Albert Shellim. (Interestingly, PP Dr. Rahim Muljiani succeeded Albert Shellim.) PP Dr. Adi Dastur recalled at the end of the meeting that he was

invited to become a member by the duo of “Jimmy and Albert” (Adi was admitted on August 23, 1981).

With the election of Paul and Nowroze, the line of succession in the Club has been established. Thus, when Nandan Damani demits office at the stroke of midnight on June 30/July 1, 2010, Pradeep Saxena will take over as President and his team will include Paul George as President-Elect and Nowroze Vazifdar as Vice-President.

President Nandan, who conducted the AGM, handled the proceedings deftly. The agenda included adoption of the annual report of the Club and its accounts, the accounts of the Charities Trust No. 3 and the reappointment of the auditors, M/s Sudit K. Parekh & Company.

The resolution for approval of the annual report of the Club for the period July 1, 2008, to June 30, 2009, was proposed by Pradeep Chinai and seconded by PP Arun Sanghi. It was adopted unanimously.

Next on the agenda was adoption of the Club’s accounts for the period July 1, 2008, to June 30, 2009. This was proposed by PP Rajnikant Reshamwala and seconded by Rita Dalal and carried unanimously.

The third resolution, for adoption of the accounts of the Rotary Club of Bombay Charities Trust No. 3 for the period July 1, 2008, to June 30, 2009, was proposed by Pradeep Chinai and seconded by PP Kalpana Munshi. It was also carried unanimously.

As far as the auditors were concerned, their reappointment was approved in two steps.

First, PP Rajnikant Reshamwala proposed the resolution to reappoint M/s Sudit K. Parekh & Co. as auditors of the Rotary Club of Bombay for the year 2009-2010. This was seconded by Sunny Pariyaram.

And then Rita Dalal proposed the resolution to reappoint M/s Sudit K. Parekh & Co. as auditors of the Rotary Club of Bombay Charities Trust No. 3 for the year 2009-2010. This was seconded by Pradeep Chinai.

Nandan then turned to the election of Officers for the Rotary year 2010-2011 and four Directors for 2010-2012.

He announced that only one nomination each had been received for the vacancies, therefore those nominated were declared elected unopposed.

Thus, Paul George was named President-Elect; Nowroze Vazifdar Vice-President and President Nominee; Bipin Kapadia Hon. Secretary; Sitaram Shah Hon. Joint Secretary; and Ishraq Contractor Hon. Treasurer for the Rotary year 2010-2011.

As for Directors (for 2010-2012), the four declared elected unopposed were Vineet Bhatnagar, Suresh Goklaney, Shailesh Haribhakti and Arin Master.

With that, the business of the 80th Annual General Meeting of the Rotary Club of Bombay was concluded.
