The latest edition of the District Governor’s GML
(or Governor’s Monthly Letter) has conferred the title of “Project of
the Month” on the Bhavishya-Yaan project of the Rotary Club of Bombay.
Members will recall that when District Governor Raju
Subramanian made his Official Visit to the Club on August 18, 2009, he
had lauded the project and said that “if all Clubs in the District
followed the lead given by the Rotary Club of Bombay, they would be
doing a great service in the field of literacy and education”.
Following his Official Visit, the DG highlighted the project in the very next GML (for the month of September).
The
GML is the official newsletter that the DG pens every month and which
is sent to all Clubs in the District, to all Officer-Bearers at the
District level, to Governors in other Districts all over the country,
as also to the Asian Regional Office in New Delhi and to Rotary
International in the USA.
Headlined ‘Bhavishya-Yaan’ – A mission to a brighter
future, the article quotes DG Raju as saying that it is “An outstanding
literacy project with a tremendous potential for growth and (which) can
in fact be a movement, a trendsetter”.
The report is based largely on inputs provided by
the Club and its Education for All Committee which has Alok Sekhsaria
as Chairman and PP Arun Sanghi as Co-Chairman. And this is how the
Governor has introduced the project: “The Education for All Committee
of the RC Bombay has initiated Bhavishya-Yaan (a mission to the
future), inspired by India’s Chandra-Yaan (a mission to the moon), a
skills enhancement programme that could address this situation at a
micro level and set the stage for it to be scaled up and emulated at
various locations and levels.”
Thank you for the encomiums, DG Raju. We hope that we will achieve the goals that have been set for this unique mission.
