Rajashree Birla gives another $1 million for polio
Ms Rajashree Birla, an honorary member of the Rotary Clubs of Bombay and Mulund and the head of the Aditya Birla Group, has committed an additional $1 mil-lion to The Rotary Foundation for its polio eradication efforts. She announced the donation at the Arch C. Klumph Society dinner held in the course of the 2012 R.I. Con-vention in Bangkok.
With this, her contribution to The Foundation’s campaign to eradicate polio totalled more than $6.2 million. “Ms Birla’s presence at the Con-vention, not just for her programme segment but all four days, shows the regard that she has for Rotary.
She is magnanimity, dignity, com-passion, humility and tranquillity personified,” said President Kalyan Banerjee amidst loud applause. “It’s not just the additional one million dollars she gave for polio eradication, but the grace and abso-lute commitment that she reflects for which we admire and respect her,” he added.
Past R.I. President Raja Saboo stated that Ms Birla’s actions were the embodiment of goodness. “She is not just a generous phi-lanthropist but seeks financial sup-port from others and serves hands-on to get the drops in the mouths of children... That is what makes her a ‘Hero of Humanity’,” he added.
